From Santiago: Maipo Canyon Volcano and Hot Spring Tour

2.Maipo Canyon Volcano and Hot Spring Tour

★★★★★★★★★★4.9 · 98 reviews · 12 hours · from $170

Leave Santiago early for a small-group Andes adventure with a bilingual guide such as Andres or Gonzalo. Hike 4 kilometers to a San José volcano viewpoint, enjoy a picnic lunch and Chilean wine, then soak in the mineral pools at Baños Colina.

“I think this would be a great tour for most people! However, as a solo traveler, the only other people on the tour with me (a solo traveler) was a group of 5 people who only talked between themselves, thus I feel it wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been. (But not a fault of the guide) The guide was great and the transportation was easy and convenient. I think it would have felt more worth the money if there was similar like-minded people. This tour was also run in conjunction with the 8km walk tour that I personally may have enjoyed more (more solo travelers doing this one),…”

Leave Santiago early for Cajón del Maipo, soak in six thermal pools at Termas de Colina, hear the story of Tinoco’s abandoned railway tunnel, and stop at Casa Chocolate. Transport, a small breakfast, and drinks are included, but lunch is not.

“1. While booking, it says english guide. But it turned out to be all spanish..the co travellers and the guide (speaks broken little english often taking help of intetnet translations). 2. The guide admits the tour is his first trip as well. Hence seems helpless. 3. The driver is more active virtually taking over control. He is excitedly speaking throughout, sometime even getting his both hands off the steering... 4. The tour wad supposedly to start at 6.30. I was sent a text at 10 pm earlier night that the pick up will be at 5 am. I missed thay and when they arrive in the morning and threatened to…”

4.Trekking Mirador el volcano + Geometric hot springs

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 38 reviews · 8 hours (approx.) · from $195Top rated

Leave Pucón with guide Blas of Rutas Outdoors for a three-hour trek through native forest and araucarias toward Villarrica volcano’s southern slope. Then warm up in 20 Geometric Hot Springs pools linked by red walkways. This private, moderate outing lasts about eight hours.

“We had such a wonderful experience with Bos. The intense uphill was so worth it, as Bos was a supportive and smart navigator. We saw four volcanoes from the top! And the fact that the trek ended in these extraordinary hot springs was so unique -- most tour operators do not have access to this land. Highlight of our trip to Chile.”

“Francisca was an excellent guide and entertainer, and Andres a great driver. Our only concern was not being told well in advance what we may need to bring, or that the schedule could be disrupted, like they’re being no time for lunch. Bring extra warm clothing, extra food, extra water, and a towel.”

“Horrible experience. The driver ignored our messages and calls, left us waiting, and we had to walk 15 minutes through mud to catch the van. The van almost left without us, and they had to stop it on the road. The driver pretended not to have an internet connection, wrote fake addresses to avoid finding our location, and refused to drop us off at the same place. He didn’t speak a single word of English, and when we suggested calling a uber, he told us to just get out of the van and figure it out ourselves. We had to pay for an Uber. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable.”
